This was the sunrise viewed from our bed at our $35/night hotel. AWESOME! |
With snow-capped mountains that led to beautiful beaches. With three charmers. Although, two of those charmers sometimes attempted charm by screaming loudly in their car seats... Our fault for getting lost in those lovely mountains on our way to those perfect beaches. And for raising our children as public transit kiddos, cars aren't their thing.
But, really it was all great on Crete.
Sure, it was too cold to swim, and at the beaches the wind would pick up sand and send it cutting into your skin (or eyes!). But, that meant we got world-class coast lines literally to ourselves.
Alright, so, the cute sunhat I bought inexplicably fell apart the day I bought it. But, I came home with a fresh smattering of freckles.
So, maybe one of the hotels we got was in the middle of nowhere. But, that was cool because... it's beautiful in the middle of nowhere! And you get to eat fresh fish on the beach with no one to bother you but the lonely restaurant cats (which don't actually bother at all, but just delight my two-year-old).
So, without further ado, pictures. In no particular order.

This vacation was brought to you by: Salami Cheese Sandwiches. At least one meal a day! There might have been a day when we ate these bad boys for all three. YUM! |
Dear salami and cheese sandwiches, if we're ever rich when we travel, we won't miss you too much, but thanks for making travel in Ireland, Italy, Germany, and now Crete possible. |

There are impressive Minoan and Roman ruins everywhere. But sometimes David wasn't as impressed as we were...
Perhaps he was pretending to be the fierce Minotaur whose home was the labyrinth here beneath the palace of Knossos. |
When it was time to come home, it took us a long plane ride, bus ride, and cab ride we came home to find new life outside our kitchen window!
And, death inside it....
David still mentions the "poor basil plant" that couldn't make it a week without water. He says it in a respectfully sad tone. |
It was darling to see four-month-old Sebastian happily recognize his home (who knew what his infant heart experienced as he surely thought we'd never be there again). He and David settled right in.
Well... that's all folks! Tschuss
P.S. Blogger hates me. Or just photos. Or maybe I just need to do a tutorial on photo formatting on blogger. :)
